Mr. Charles Richard Burton age 79, of Rome, GA, passed away Friday, April 3, 2009, in a local hospital.
Mr. Burton was born in Birmingham, AL on July 29, 1929 the son of the late Charles Fredrick Burton and Delera Summerville Burton. He served in the United States Army as a Sergeant in the first Calvary in the Korean War and was honorably released June 6, 1952. He retired from Georgia Kraft Paper Mill as a Machine Superintendent after over thirty-seven years of service. Mr. Burton enjoyed growing his own crops, gardening, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Burton; of Rome; one son, Bob Burton of Pensacola, FL; two daughters, Jeanette Hughes and her husband, Jerry of Dacula, GA and Barbara Odom and her husband, David of Cartersville, GA; two grandchildren, Branden Hughes of Atlanta, GA, and Aimee Odom of Cartersville, GA and a sister, Elizabeth Burton.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 6, 2009, at 3:00 P.M. in the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Oaknoll Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Holt officiating. Interment will follow in the Floyd Memory Gardens with the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 of the American Legion Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 6, 2009 from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour in the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Oaknoll Chapel Funeral Home.
