Charles W. "Pa-Paw" Mathison, 91, of Cartersville passed away Friday, August 23, 2013 at Cartersville Medical Center.
Born July 27, 1922 he was the son of the late Homer Lee Mathison and the late Dulcie Thomas Mathison. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Lou Lewis Mathison; his brother, Ernest Mathison; his sister, Willie King; his grandson, Randy Lee Mathison; and his daughter-in-law, Jean Mathison. Mr. Mathison retired from Goodyear after forty years. As a skilled carpenter he enjoyed helping family and neighbors with building projects. Mr. Mathison loved chocolate, gardening and animals but he especially loved watching his grandchildren grow up and imparted a very special knowledge and wisdom to his family.
Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, Billy Wayne Mathison of Adairsville and Bobby Joe and Marcelyn Mathison of Cartersville; his brother, Earl Mathison of Cartersville; his sister, Betty Chastain of Cartersville; his granddaughters, Kelly Mathison of Cartersville, Teresa and David Meyer of Adairsville, Melissa and Michael Giles of Woodstock and Mandy Akers of Adairsville; his grandson, Ricky Wayne and Pamela Mathison of Cartersville; his great granddaughters, Randi Nikkole "Nikki" Amos of Cartersville, Chelsea Lee Mathison of Cartersville and Violet Giles of Woodstock; and his great grandsons, Joshua Wayne Mathison of Cartersville, James Michael Day of Cartersville and Aidan Giles of Woodstock.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 26, 2013 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with the Reverend Wayne Richmond and the Reverend Marlon Haney officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
