Charmaine Cooper

Mrs. Emma Brenckman "Charmaine" Cooper, age 98, of 1345 Redmond Road, Rome, GA, died Wednesday afternoon in her residence.

Mrs. Cooper was born in Colmar, Alsace, France, on July 1, 1908, daughter of the late John Jacob Brenckman and Cecile Gottenkoeng Brenckman. She came to America in May 1914, and spent her childhood in Smithfield, Virginia. Mrs. Cooper was graduated from Smithfield High School and continued her education by attending business school. She married W.B. "Bill" Cooper June 14, 1930 and lived in Hopewell, VA, where she and Bill stayed until his work moved them to Rome. During World War II, Mrs. Cooper was a volunteer with the Red Cross and the local USO. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and prior to retirement was associated with Battey TB Hospital as a Health Educator. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Cooper is preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Cooper Leibach and twelve brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Cooper is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cecilia and Don Trammell of Rome; seven grandchildren, Susan Trammell of St. Maries, ID, Donald (Renee) Trammell of Carrolton, GA, Beth Trammell of Carrolton, Bill (Karen) Trammell of Jacksonville, FL, John Leibach of Augusta, GA, Maria ( Jeff) Ragsdale of Marietta, GA, and Jim (Diane) Leibach of Augusta; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2007, at 2:30 PM in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Butch Rumble officiating. A private interment will follow in the Myrtle Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home. At other hours the family may be contacted at the residence of Cecilia and Don Trammell.

In lieu of flowers please send memorial contributions to Lakeview Baptist Church Building Fund, 80 Salem Drive, Rome, GA, 30165.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Saturday by 2:00 p.m. and include Joey Trammell, Donald Trammell, Bill Trammell, John Leibach, Jeff Ragsdale and Jim Leibach.
