Mrs. Christiana Ballard Newman, 86, of White, died Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Floyd Medical Center. Born in Blairsville, Georgia on March 2, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Calvin Bell and the late Vaul Walker Bell. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harvey Bell, Pete Bell and Kenneth Bell; and a sister, Mizie McMillan.
Mrs. Newman was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church and was retired from Union Carbide. She moved to Bartow County from Tennessee when she was eighteen years old. She enjoyed working in her yard and in her garden.
Survivors include her husband of twenty one years, James Newman of White; her children, Diane Abernathy and husband, Douglas of Cartersville, Sara Alexander of Crowe Springs, Faye Harris of Nashville, Tennessee and Eddie Ballard of Adairsville; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah and Wayne Loudermilk of Warner Robbins, Sally and Gene Norman of Dallas, North Carolina and Pauline and Cecil Postell of Turtletown, Tennessee.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 16, 2011 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Parnick Jennings, Jr. and Rev. Joe McKaig officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
