Chris Day died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on August 17, 2024. Chris held a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner credential of Master Captain and was known by most of his friends as Captain Chris. His passion for recreational boating and water safety was more than a career, and he trained hundreds of students as a National Safe Boating Council Instructor Trainer. Chris was called upon many times in search and rescue operations and was the first to pray with families who had lost a loved one.
In his mission to enhance the safety and enjoyment of boating, Chris received multiple awards for his volunteerism and meritorious service such as the BoatU.S. Distinguished Tower Award, National Safe Boating Council Silver Schooner Award, and the Meritorious Service Award. He served on the Board of Directors for C-PORT and the National Association for the Marine Assistance Industry. Chris was one of only 15 Certified Recreational Boating Professionals in the country. Chris was a proud Mason and practiced the core principles of brotherly love, relief, truth, integrity, friendship, respect, and service.
As an entrepreneur, Chris owned multiple businesses including TowBoatU.S. franchise locations in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. Chris also served in the Interstate Criminal Interdiction unit for the Drug Task Force of Bartow County and Doraville. Chris had a perseverance and drive for success and mentored others into the maritime industry.
Above all, Chris was a family man. He worked hard in providing for his family, but made sure to spend quality time with his loved ones. A man of deep faith, Chris shared the word of God freely and opened his heart to everyone he met. He would literally give you the shirt off his back, if you needed it.
