Mrs. Cleo Fortenberry Hobgood, age 77, of 5409 Adairsville Road, Adairsville, GA, died Thursday evening, August 4, 2005, in a local hospital.Mrs. Hobgood was born in Suches, GA, on April 20, 1928, the daughter of the late Lewis and Elizabeth Stover Holloway. Prior to retirement, she had been a nurse for over 18 years, working at several area nursing homes. Mrs. Hobgood was a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, especially baked goods, talking on the telephone with friends and relatives and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Mrs. Hobgood was a "caring, giving person" who "always accepted people for who they were". She loved her grandchildren and was a woman who always made everyone feel loved. Mrs. Hobgood is survived by her husband, Winford "George" Hobgood; four sons and daughters-in-law, J.W. and Janice Fortenberry of Blairsville, GA, Mitchell and Betty Jo Fortenberry of Adairsville, Jimmy and Ann Fortenberry of Rome, GA, and Randy and Sharon Fortenberry of Blairsville; three step-sons, Jack Hobgood and his wife, Gail, of Shannon, GA, Dexter Hobgood of Plainville, GA, and Rex Hobgood and his wife Alicia, of Rome; one step-daughter, Marie West of Adairsville; one sister, Normie Shook of Cummings, GA. Eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services for Mrs. Hobgood will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.Mrs. Hobgood will lie in-state in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this (Saturday) evening from 6 until 8 p.m.Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Sunday by 1:30 p.m. and include Chris Fortenberry, Dale Fortenberry, Keith Murphy, Matthew Fortenberry, Chris Harrell, Joshua Fortenberry, Seth Fortenberry and Larry King.
