Dallas Barnes

Mr. Dallas "Ray" Barnes, age 74, of 201 Livingston Rd. SW, Rome, GA died Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at his residence.Mr. Barnes was born in Rome, GA, March 22, 1930, son of the late Lewis Barnes and Olivia Parris Barnes. He was a self-employed entrepreneur and a member of the Macky Masonic Lodge #120 F&AM. Mr. Barnes attended Beech Creek Church of God. He enjoyed flea markets, working in his greenhouse, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Mae Barnes.Mr Barnes is survived by his wife of 34 years, Virginia Watson Barnes; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Billy Barber of La Grange, GA, Charlene Sheperd, and Lori and David Gilmore all of Rome; one son and daughter–in-law, Charles T. and Christi Cole of Silver Creek, GA; a brother, William H. Barnes, also of Rome. Ten grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren also survive.Funeral services for Mr. Barnes will be held at 2:00 P.M. this (Friday) afternoon in Heritage Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Clifford Free officiating. J. Parnick Jennings, Sr. will sing "How Great Thou Art".Mr. Barnes will lie in-state at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until time of funeral hour.
