Dana L Kitchens, 78, of Cartersville, peacefully passed away and ascended to be with the Lord, on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at his residence.
Born on May 26, 1944, in Covington, Georgia, he was the son of the late George Kitchens and Florrie Kitchens. He was also preceded in death by his brother Darryl Kitchens and his sister Myrna Nanny.
Dana is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sandra Kitchens; his children Chris Kitchens (Ashleigh) and Tracey Green; grandchildren Elias Kitchens and Jace Kitchens; sister Kathy Heard; nephews Josh Heard (Kristie), Josh Hames (PJ), Mike Turner (Sandra); nieces Jean Graham (Bobby), Jill Hearn, Paige Belk (Benton), and Mandy Marsh; great nieces and nephews Parks, Phoenix, Cheyenne, Abigale, Conner, Cole, Zac, Riley, Chandler, Brian, Alexis, Andrea, Brooke, Brynlee, and Chelsey; sister-in-law Brenda Turner (Loyal); and his special family Patti, Marc, Philip and Andrew Shupp and Michelle and Rob Freeman.
Dana retired with S.C. Johnson and Sons after almost 35 years of employment. He was devoted to his family, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He loved God, loved people and his community. He never met a stranger.
He remained constantly active; being involved in his Masonic Lodge, being a Civil War reenactor and historian. He served with the Georgia State Defense Force, where he arose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a special deputy with the Cobb County Sheriff's Office for over 35 years.
Even into his retirement, he volunteered with the Bartow County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team and was an avid participant in local car shows and cruise nights.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, in the chapel of Jennings Funeral Home, with Father Louis Tonsmeire officiating. Burial will follow in Cheatham Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Hearn, Chandler Graham, Riley Graham, Josh Heard, Benton Belk, and Mike Turner, and the honorary pallbearer will be Bobby Graham.
