Daniel Ritter

August 31, 1941 — September 11, 2023

Daniel "Dan" Everett Ritter, age 82, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 11, 2023, following a brief illness.

Dan was born in Peoria, Illinois on August 31, 1941, to the late Everett Arthur Ritter and Verna Emma Ritter. He is also preceded in death by his first wife, Deanna Ritter and his baby brother, Kim Ritter.

He is survived by his friend of 40 years and loving wife of 19 years, Vivian Ritter; his children, Denise Davis (Dennis) and Derek Ritter (Allison); his stepchildren, Melanie Peak (Chris), and Scott Carder (Katie); his grandchildren, Dawson Davis (Valentine), and Dani Ritter; his step-grandchildren, Jonathon Freeman (Savannah), Kristina Fox (Roy), Christopher Peak (Robin), and Cody Peak; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Long (with whom he had a very special bond), Ava Freeman, Ivy Freeman, Gracelyn Freeman, and Wren Peak; his brother Tom Ritter (Kimberly); as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Dan's life was full of adventure, and he made sure to live it to the fullest. Some of his adventures include traveling, hiking, hunting, fishing, flying, and boating. He loved to fly and as a young man got his commercial piloting license, owned his own plane, and later in life, his own corporate jet. During childhood Dan and his younger brother Tom would often go boating and fishing on the Mississippi river. He eventually traveled to every continent on earth, save for Australia, which is a trip he was planning to take in February of 2024 with his wife, Vivian. Together, they have hiked to the base camp at Mt. Everest, hiked 100 miles of trail in Nepal and spent time hiking in the Pyrenees Mountains. When they traveled to the Arctic, Dan made sure to bring his tux so he could pose with the penguins for the cover of the travel section of the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Never slowing down, he even went skydiving on his 70 th birthday. He was a scout leader for his son & grandson's Boy Scout troupe, both of which later became Eagle Scouts. He was always a hard worker and for a time owned his own hunting & fishing camp called "White Fish Bay" in Lake of the Woods, Canada. He also proudly served his country for 6 years in the United States Marine Corps on their rifle team. Dan was a loyal friend, always helping others. Once he made a friend, they were friends for life. He loved his wife, children, friends, and his two black labs Marley and Bogie, avidly. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him but his love for life will live on through them as they continue their adventures in Dan's memory. eHe
