David Billing

November 19, 1926 — July 29, 2004

David M. Billing, age 77, of 125 Mountainside Drive, Armuchee, Ga., died peacefully Thursday, July 29 in his home surrounded by his loving family.He was born November 1926 in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Hilding Billing and Hildegard Perrson Billing, who were Swedish immigrants. He was also preceded in death by his twin brother,Hank Billing. Dave spent his youth and young adult lifein Southhampton,N.Y., graduating from Southhampton High School in 1944 as valedictorian. He attended Virginia Military Institute in 1944 and graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1949.Dave was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1944-1946 in the Army Signal Corp. From 1949-1952, he was consultant engineer with Kurt Salmon Associates,Inc., before becoming Vice-President for Manufacturing with RoydonWear, Inc.in McRae,Ga. He retired in 1992 with 40 years service to the Company. In 1996, David and his wife Vivian moved to Rome, Ga. to be closer to their children and grandchildren.He was very active member of the McRae United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years. For the past seven years, he had been a faithful servant of the Lord at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, Rome. He served on the Board of Directors for Security State Bank in McRae and Farmers State Bank in Dublin,Ga. He also was very active in civic organizations in McRae, being President of the Rotary Club, The Lions Club and Jaycees and Chairman of the Telfair County Hospital Authority for eight years. His hobbies included building and repairing things for others, working in the yard, but most of all spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved following his children's and grandchildren's school and sporting activities.He leaves to cherish his memory, the love of his life, Vivian Coalson, Billing, to whom he was married Aug.21, 1955; three daughters and two son-in-laws, Elaine (Curt) Cooper of Rome, Lynn (Terry) Boger, Woodstock,Ga. and Diana Billing of Atlanta; six special grandchildren who worshipped their "Papa", Chad, Christin and Chase Cooper, Erika and Kelli Fain and Tyler Boger; a sister Elsa Drake of Rome; sister-in-law, Flo Billing of Southhampton,NY; mother-in-law, Lois Coalson of Rome; brother-in-law and wife, Pledger Coalson and wife Dot of Ocilla,Ga., Several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services will be held at 6 pm Monday,August 2, in the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with Rev.Jay Greener of Colorado Sps,CO and Rev. Michael Dunbar, pastor of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church officiating. Music by Calvin Newton of the Gaither homecoming family. Sunset entombment will follow in the St.John mausoleum of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. BILLING – PAGE # 2The Honor Guard of Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion will accord full military rites.The family will receive friends at Jennings Oaknoll Chapel from 4 pm to 7 pm Sunday and at other hours will be at the residence. A Memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced in the McRae United Methodist Church.
