Mr. David Lee Phillips, age 51, of 22 Tamassee Lane, Rome, GA, died Saturday, February 2, 2008.
Mr. Phillips was born in Hobbs, New Mexico, on December 10, 1956, the son of Terry T. Phillips and Laura Brown Phillips Smith. Prior to becoming disabled in 2002, he was associated with Shaw Industries in Cartersville for over 15 years. Mr. Phillips was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was member of the New Grace Baptist Church and held a Purple Belt in Karate. Mr. Phillips loved to cook, collected clowns and enjoyed fishing. He never met a stranger.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Willis Phillips, to whom he was married on July 18, 2006; one daughter, Michelle Lockhart of Calhoun, GA; two grandchildren, Gabe Pate and Andrew Lockhart; Mother, Laura Faye Smith of Cartersville, GA; father, Terry T. Phillips, Sr. of Dallas, TX; step-children, Jennifer Davis, Michelle Beacham and Robert Hall, II; brothers, Terry Dwayne Phillips, Walter Phillips; sisters, Loretta Richards, Bonnie Garrett and Christine Phillips; half-brother, Terry T. Phillips, Jr.. Fifteen step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Phillips will be held on Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. John Huffman officiating. Interment will follow in the Georgia Memorial Cemetery in Canton, GA.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home. At other hours they will be at their respective homes.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Wednesday by 10:30 a.m. and include Robert Hall, II, Robbie Hall, Kevin Phillips, James A. Reynolds and Jeffrey Burkhalter.
