Dewey Lumpkin

Mr. Dewey Leroy (Red) Lumpkin, age 82, of 530 County Rd. 616 SW, Rome, GA, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, in his home.

Mr. Lumpkin was born in Rome, GA on August 7, 1926. He received Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge and was a Military Policeman while in the Army. He was a comedian and musician with the Happy Lumpkin Family. Mr. Lumpkin was a journeyman electrician and member of the IBEW Local 613 and a member of Mason with Lodge 728 He loved to read, fish, hunt, play games on the computer, and spend time with family.

Mr. Lumpkin was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey LeRoy Lumpkin, Sr. and Ida Louise Frick Lumpkin; his wife, Jewel Addington Lumpkin; his daughter, Sheila Gail Stafford; a sister, Annette Joy Lumpkin Shiver and his grandson, Mathew Andersen Dugger.

Survivors include, best friend, Linda Woodall; sister, Ginger Ziggler, son, Larry Lumpkin, his wife Kim, their daughter Micah of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughter Teresa Popham, husband Ronnie, of Cherokee County, AL, their daughters Cindy Ferguson, Stasia Woodall, of Rome, GA, Rhonda Roberts of Ft. Payne; step daughter Dawn Barnes, husband Danny, children Jason, Jarrod and Julia of Rome, GA; Tina Dugger, husband Lee, their daughters, Amanda and Rachel Adams of Stuart, VA; granddaughters, Brittany and Courtney Stafford of Gallatin, TN; and ten great- grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Oaknoll chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery with the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion Honor Guard conducting military rites.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 10th from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home.
