Dewitt Abernathy

Mr. Dewitt Abernathy, 87, of Lindale, died Thursday, September 27, 2012 at his residence. A native of Bartow County born January 26, 1925, he was the son of the late Elihue Abernathy and the late Nevada Howell Abernathy. In addition to his parents he is preceded by his wife, Ruby Tanner Abernathy; his sons, Troy and Stevie Abernathy; his sister, Connie Sanford; and his brothers, Odie, Oliver and Melvin Abernathy.

He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Mr. Abernathy was easy going and loved his family. He was a hard worker and loved to fish in his leisure time.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Doyle and Shirley Abernathy; his grandchildren, Lamar, Dewayne, Darrell and Forrest Abernathy, Stephanie Lanham and Christy Abernathy; several great-grandchildren, special friend, Misty Nipper; his sister, Bonnie Waits; and his daughters-in-law, Cathy Abernathy and Jenny Abernathy.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Old Macedonia Cemetery with Reverend Charles Cox officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12 Noon at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home.
