Donald Spurlin

Mr. Donald Lee Spurlin, age 66, of Rockmart, GA, died November 17, 2005.Mr. Spurlin was born in Floyd County on May 13, 1939, the son of Charlie Lee Spurlin and the late Eula Keener Spurlin. He was a member of West Rome Baptist Church and served in the United States Army as a military policeman. At the time of his death, Mr. Spurlin was employed at the Paulding County Sheriff's Department as an investigator. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after thirty years of service as a detective and a firearms instructor. He worked his first job at Steven Davenport's Funeral Home and then went to work at the Rome Police Department as a patrolman. Mr. Spurlin was a licensed pilot, enjoyed hunting and playing golf. He was a very loving, kind and generous person to everyone. In addition to Mr. Spurlin's father, he is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lt Col (USAF) Stephen and Ronda Spurlin of Universal City, TX and their daughter, Sabrina Leigh Spurlin; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Nancy Spurlin of Tullahoma, TN; two sisters; Carole Boyd of Rome, GA; and Ellen Purser with her husband, David of Lawrenceville, GA. He is also survived by his former wife, Eleanor B. Spurlin of Charlotte, NC. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2005, at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Oates officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery with full graveside rites escorted by the Paulding County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard.Mr. Spurlin will remain in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Tuesday from 12:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home by 1:30 P.M.: Capt. Robert Davis, Maj. Tom Murphy, Det. Mike Houston, Det. Harry McGarvey, Det. John Sheirlin, and Det. Mark Dykes.
