Mrs. Doris Jean Powell, 75, of Taylorsville, GA, died Friday, November 26, 2010. She was a most beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She attended Floyd Creek Baptist Church and retired from Fite Living Center where she was a cook. Mrs. Powell loved to paint, read her bible, attend church, and to feed birds and stray animals.
She was preceded in death by her husband, of 58 years, William Clyde �Sleepy� Powell and her parents, R.A. and Lois M. Sutton
Mrs. Powell is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Lamar Tilley; son and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Judy Powell, grandchildren; Brian and Emma Tilley, Tina and Ricky McFarland, Rodney Powell, Kimberly and Michael Howell, Kevin and Amy Powell, great-grandchildren; Peyton Godfrey, Halley Godfrey, Amanda Morris, Justin Howell, Halley Howell, Melissa Howell, Chelsea Powell, great-great-grandson, Jason Howell; several nieces and nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law, Wilma and L.C. Cornwell, Carol and Joe Brown; sister, Edna Gentry; brothers and sisters in law, Charles and Christine Sutton, Alvin and Debra Sutton, Donnie and Rachel Sutton.
Funeral services celebrating Mrs. Powell�s life will be held Monday, November 29, 2010, at 2:00 o�clock, at Floyd Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Ford and Rev. Donnie Sutton officiating. Mrs. Powell will lie in state one hour, prior to the service. Interment will follow in Floyd Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00, Sunday November 28, 2010.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Cornwell, Dewayne Sutton, Everett Sutton, Don Sutton, Randall Brown, and Reed Farmer. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the church by 12:45 p.m.
