Mrs. Dorothy Lucille Barnes Jackson, known to family and friends as "Mama Jackson", age 89, of 564 Turners Bend Road, Rome, GA, died Monday evening, August 2, 2004 in a local hospital.A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mrs. Jackson was born on May 8, 1915, the daughter of the late Babe Barnes and Carrie Bishop Barnes. She had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County all her life and was a housewife and homemaker. Mrs. Jackson was a member of the Huffaker Road Baptist Church and was the last of seven children. She enjoyed gardening, canning and watching her soap operas. Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death in 1988 by her husband, John Foy Jackson, to whom she was married in 1933. Also preceding her in death was a son, Floyd Astin Jackson, and a grandson, Jeff Lewis.Mrs. Jackson is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Blondell and Danny Thomas of Silver Creek, GA, and Peggy and Bill Smith of Rome; four grandchildren, Shelia Stevenson, Kimberly Lewis, Johnny Stephens and Tony Potts. Six great-grandchildren also survive.Funeral services for Mrs. Jackson will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin Glass and Rev. John Huffman officiating.
