Dorothy Lovell

February 23, 1925 — July 13, 2007

Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Virginia Bailey Lovell, age 82, of Rome, GA, went home to be with her Heavenly Father Friday morning, July 13, 2007, at 6:30 a.m.

A native of Rome and Floyd County, Dot was born on February 23, 1925, daughter of the late George Leonard Bailey and Mary Lou Willis Bailey. She was a member of Garden Lakes Baptist Church and a Newton Wallace Sunday School Class. Mrs. Dot was employed for many years with Floyd Medical Center as Purchasing Agent and was a long time member and president of Floyd Medical Center Auxillary, having joined in 1979. She had also been a member of the Laureate Gama Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi since October of 1957; and held titles of Rome Girl of the Year, Valentine Queen, Chapter President and Order of the Rose. Mrs. Dot deeply loved her family, treasured her many friends, enjoyed working in her yard, growing flowers and was a talented floral designer and craftsperson.

Mrs. Lovell is survived by one sister, Mary Ruth Pitts of Moultrie, GA; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Herbert and Ann Bailey, Hershcel and Christine Bailey both of Rome; two nieces, Rosemary (Richard) Thaggard of Moultrie, and Mary Grace Bailey of Rome; three nephews, Jim Bailey (Sandra) of Cleveland, SC, Dr. Marcus W. Pitts (Melody) of Augusta, GA, and Ben Pitts (Marsha) of Albany, GA; five great-nephews, Scott H. Bailey of Cleveland, SC, Trey and Sam Pitts of Augusta, Jason Thaggard (Lisa), Italy and Zed Thaggard all of Colombus, GA; one step great-niece, Dawn Godfrey of Greenville, SC, and two step-great nephews, Jamie and Chad Williams of Greenville, CS.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Garden Lakes Baptist Church with Dr. Drew Corbett officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends this (Saturday) evening from 6 until 8 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home. At other hours the family will receive in Mrs. Dot's home.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church by 1:30 p.m. and include; George Curry, Pat Hill, Thomas D. Lindsey, Harold Prewett, Marvin Smith, and Bill Stillwell. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Laureate Gamma Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi, Floyd Medical Center's Auxillary and the Newton Wallace Sunday School Class.
