Dorothy Smith

Mrs. Dorothy Virginia Smith, age 81, of 602 Holmes Road, Rome, GA. died Saturday December 27, 2008 in a local hospital.



Mrs. Smith was born in Etowah county Al., on May 11, 1927 the Daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Mary Pauline Black Bircheat. She was married on September 6, 1945 to Mr. Gilbert Smith. Mrs. Smith moved to Rome in 1956 where she worked for the Rome city school system as the manager for the lunchroom and she also worked for the city summer play ground program retiring after 30 years of service. In addition to her parents Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Gilbert R. Smith on December 31, 2000 and a son, Jackie Don Smith on April 30, 2008.



She is survived by one son; Jerry Smith, Honolulu, HI; one daughter and son-in-law Joni (Bob) McKee, Jacksonville Beach, FL; four grandchildren; Tim Smith, Rome, Jason (Brenda) Smith, Yukon, OK, Jake Smith, Rochester, NY and Taylor Smith, Rochester, NY; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Rachel Smith, both of Yukon, OK.



The family will receive friends Monday from 6.p.m until 8p.m.in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller funeral home.



Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, and Miller Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
