Mr. E. Earl Williams, age 74, of 26 Wentworth Place, Rome, GA, died Saturday afternoon, October 1, 2005, at his residence.Mr. Williams was born in Walker County, GA, on October 25, 1930, the son of the late Earl Williams and Emma Tate Williams. He had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County for the greater part of his life. Prior to retirement, Mr. Williams was associated with General Electric of Rome for over 38 years. He was a member of the Garden Lakes Baptist Church where he had served as associate deacon and taught Sunday School. Mr. Williams helped to organize the Garden Lakes School Youth Football program and was an active coach for several Little League and Pony League baseball teams. He was a veteran of the United States Marines, having served during the Korean War.Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Mary Nell Culpepper Williams, to whom he was married on January 7, 1955; three sons and daughters-in-law, Chip and Rhonda Williams of Rome, Greg Williams of Rome, and Stan and Tara Williams of Silver Creek, GA; one granddaughter, Katy, the light of Poppy's life; one step-grandson, Jake Edwards; one sister, Oneida Adams of Rome. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services for Mr. Williams will be held this (Monday) afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Rutledge Chapel of the Garden Lakes Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Skelton and Rev. Gary Graves officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Rev. Drew Corbett officiating the graveside rites.Mr. Williams will lie in-state in the Rutledge Chapel of the Garden Lakes Baptist Church where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour.Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church by 1:30 p.m. and include Wayne McLemore, Jerry McLemore, Steve Culpepper, David Culpepper, Tim Culpepper and Kevin Knight. Honorary pallbearers will include Steve Catanzano, Greg Teems and Barry Wood.
