Mr. Earl W. Blackwell, age 78, of 10 South Harrison Street, Rome died Friday morning, October 26, 2007, at his residence.
Mr. Blackwell was born on July 7, 1929 in Floyd County, GA, the son of the late C. S. Blackwell and Bertha Ledbetter Blackwell. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Prior to retirement in 1991, Mr. Blackwell was associated with the Rome division of the United States Post Office as a mail carrier and clerk. He was a member of Vanns Valley Baptist Church. Mr. Blackwell was preceded in death by his loving wife, Syretta L. Chambers Blackwell in July 2003; two brothers, Hubert Blackwell and Floyd Blackwell; and a sister, Margaret Lambert.
Mr. Blackwell is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and James Ball of Rome; two grandchildren, Joel Ball and Kim Ball; two nephews, Warren Blackwell and Tommy Blackwell; and a niece, Gail Blackwell.
Funeral services for Mr. Blackwell will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Whorton and Rev. Paul Camp officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends in the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home on Saturday from 5 until 7 PM.
Pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 PM and include Tommy Blackwell, Wesley Blackwell, Warren Blackwell, Ben Ball, Will Young, and Joel Ball.
