Earl Williamson, Jr. passed away on January 20, 2025, at the age of 81 at his home in Cartersville, Georgia. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life's challenges with a smile and unfailing optimism. Despite dealing with physical limitations, Earl never complained but took interest and joy in the lives of others, his family and friends.
As a young man from Tennessee he was interested in growing an accounting business in Cartersville, a town he came to love because he enjoyed friendships he made here. He was a founding partner at Williamson and Company, CPA's.
Earl met his wife at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. They married in June of 1968. He was a Vol fan who displayed his Volunteer support on the front bumper tag of his 15 passenger van. This orange and white tag was quietly and periodically replaced as needed due to attacks in Georgia parking lots. In Addition to his love of Tennessee football, he enjoyed the music of Blue Grass and Delta Blues and would pile friends into that van to drive lo live music venues often to Atlanta's Variety Playhouse.
He frequently reflected on his experiences in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a supporter of a few veterans' organizations. He was an avid reader of history and had a substantial knowledge of the details of world events past and present. Based on that awareness he was able to separate the chaff from the wheat in most instances.
Earl is preceded in death by his parents, Gladys Finnell Williamson and Earl Williamson of Cleveland, Tennessee. He was also predeceased by his sister Mary Williamson, brother Gary Williamson, and sister-in-law Gail Williamson.
Earl is survived by his wife Marie, son Lewey, and grandson Aaron.
A memorial celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church in Cartersville where Earl was a member.
In lieu of flowers those desiring may make memorial contributions in Earl's honor to a charity of your choosing or to the First Presbyterian Church in Cartersville, 183 W. Main St., Cartersville, GA 30120.
