Edith Bailey

January 14, 1943 — September 18, 2021

Edith Lafain Massey Bailey ("MawMaw"), 78, of Cartersville, Georgia, was called home to Heaven on Saturday, September 18th, 2021. As she passed, she was surrounded by family in her home.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Floyd and Agnes Carson Massey and her sisters, Ruth Hite and Bernice Gentry.

Edith is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 61 years, James Thomas Bailey. They were married on August 5, 1960 and have lived in the Cartersville area all of those years. She is also survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Russell (Pamela) Bailey, her daughters Angela Blair and Karen (Gregory Hendricks) Taylor. MawMaw is also survived by her grandchildren Shane Bailey, Kerstin (Stevie) Ross, Lauren (Ben) Chappuis, McAllie Givens, Joshua (Tabrina) Cowart, Matthew (Ashley) Cowart, Nicholas Cowart, Chad (Kayla Bridwell) Taylor, Christian Taylor, Chase Taylor and Karter Taylor. She is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law Buddy (Pat) Massey, Tim (Cathy) Massey and her sister Joan (Sam) Fortenberry. She is also blessed to have 11 great-grandchilden and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

Anyone who met MawMaw would walk away as her friend. It didn't matter where you would see her, she would be the same. If there was a sporting event, awards ceremony, church program, school activity, or basically anything that involved her family, she would be there. She cheered on each one of us with the same enthusiasm, no matter what we were doing. Her homemade vegetable soup with cornbread and tiny little biscuits are legendary. If you ever needed cheering up, that soup could work miracles. For years, MawMaw helped raise most of the kids in Oakland Heights and they all held a special place in her heart. There are so many things that we will miss about MawMaw, but she would want us all to remember that her destiny was secured the day that she accepted Christ as her Savior, many years ago. She lived a life that included giving to others and caring for their needs. A longtime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Cartersville, she regularly asked for prayer in church for her neighbors and for her family and friends. She had a strong desire for all around her to be able to join her one day in Heaven.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 27, 2021 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with Reverend Robby Chastain and Reverend David Baker officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery in White, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Transitions Hospice for their gentle care during her final days with us. Also, thank you to all of the friends, family and neighbors who have stopped by for a visit, made a call or prayed for us. We feel those prayers and know that God is always in control.
