Mrs. Edna Earl Rogers Manning, age 85, of 22 Bells Ferry Road, Rome GA, died Monday night, February 20, 2006, in a Rome hospital following a lingering illness.She was born at her parent's home in the Oak Grove Community of Gordon County, December 14, 1920, daughter of the late James Anderson Rogers and Omie Baker Rogers. Edna grew up in the Oak Grove Community attending the school and Oak Grove Baptist Church. As a teenager, she attended a revival on a Thursday night at Oothcalooga Baptist Church in Adairsville, GA, where her future husband's brother, Rev. Herman Manning, was preaching. At the close of the service she gave her heart to Jesus, was later baptized and became a member. She was always active in church at Oothcalooga, Turners Chapel and Hillcrest Baptist Churches, where she was a member at her homegoing.Edna worked at Tubize (Celanese), then during World War II at Bell Bomber Plant in Marietta and for 38 years, prior to retirement, was a seamstress at Champion Garment Co. in Rome. She was preceded in death by her father, Dec. 8, 1951, mother June, 14, 1980, sisters, Blanche Carver, Robbie Collins and brothers, Wallace Dewitt Rogers and Thomas Scott Rogers and a granddaughter Pamela Denise Manning, March 6, 1960.Mrs. Manning is survived by her husband, Hoyt Manning, whom she married Nov. 6, 1937, having met at the Oothcalooga revival when she was saved; one son, Kenneth Allen and his wife Carmen (Sissy) Manning, Armuchee; grandchildren, Richard and his wife, Tamara Manning, Armuchee, Shelia Manning Oliver, Rockmart; great-grandchildren, Tamer Manning and Teelia Mize.Funeral services for Mrs. Manning will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Clifford Free, Rev. Ken Hinkley and Parnick Jennings, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery with Rev. Stanley Smith conducting graveside rites.The family will receive friends in the Heritage Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 1 pm to 2 pm. At other hours they may be reached at the residence, 22 Bells Ferry Road.Pallbearers are asked to meet at Heritage Chapel on Thursday by 1:30 pm and include nephews, Hugh Lee Hubbard, Gene Hubbard, Wendell Thacker, Charles Thacker, Barry Reid and Vernon Wallace.Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund at Hill Crest Baptist Church, 2202 North Broad Street, Rome, GA 30161.
