Mrs. Edna Louise Roper Penley, age 83, of 30 Willingham Street, Rome, GA, died Saturday, March 8th in Sylacauga, AL.
Mrs. Penley was born and raised in Rome, GA. She was employed by Miller Brothers on Broad Street until it closed. She then worked as a caregiver and health care aide until she became disabled. Mrs. Penley was strong in her Christian beliefs and was loved by the many young people she taught in youth groups in church. She remained young in spirit, steadfast in her faith and strongly independent. Mrs. Penley is preceded in death by her parents, John Sylvia and Josie Roper; her husband, Joseph DeForrest Penley; and a brother and sister-in-law, Herbert Lee Roper and Virginia.
She is survived by a nephew, David L. Roper, Sr. and wife, Mary Wynn; a niece, Teresa Craft and husband, Randall; life-long friend and sister-in-law, Sarah Rowan; great-niece, Charisse Abernathy and husband, Trent; great-nephew, David L. Roper, Jr. and Brooke; great-niece, Brandee Kines; great-niece, Meredith Cole and husband, Joey; as well as eleven great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. in the Mount Carmel Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Floyd Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Penley will remain in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and at other hours may be contacted at 213 Flora Avenue, Rome, GA.
Pallbearers will be family members and church members.
