Edward Barrett

Edward Lee "E.L." Barrett, 83, of Euharlee went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at his residence.

Born in Rome on January 5, 1930 he was the son of the late Carter Barrett and the late Mary Ramsey Barrett. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard "June" Barrett; and his sisters, Lucille Burnett and Jewel Ruff. Mr. Barrett served his country in the United States Army and later went on to be self-employed as a painter. E.L. was a very patriotic man who loved his country. He loved to talk, had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. E.L. was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Louella Hovers Barrett; his sons and daughter-in-law, Vernon Barrett of Cartersville and Kenneth and Kelly Barrett of Taylorsville; his daughters and sons-in-law, Lesa and Chesley Jacobs of Rome, Teresa and David Jones of Robertsdale, Alabama and Susan and Toby Abernathy of Taylorsville; his brother, Bud Barrett of Rockmart; and twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Reynolds Chapel Baptist Church with the Reverend Bradford Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Wades Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. Saturday evening at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Benson, J.R. Wade, Milton Barrett, Jeffery Lingerfelt, Donald Hovers and Lamar Hovers. Honorary pallbearers will be Barry Abernathy, Robby Nutter and Ricky Hovers. These gentlemen are asked to be at the church by 1:15 on Sunday.
