Edward �Lindy� Lindenbaum, 83, of Cartersville died November 14, 2009 at the Cartersville Heights Nursing Home. Born April 10, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Harry Lindenbaum and the late Hilda Schitzer Lindenbaum. He was also the beloved husband for fifty-six years of the late Lois Taylor Lindenbaum who died December 29, 2008.
Lindy was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during WW II and Korea. He achieved the rank of Gunners Mate First Class before retiring in 1954. Lindy proudly served aboard several ships including the U.S.S. Houston and the U.S.S. Turner. In addition to his naval career, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern University in Boston. Lindy was a self-employed engineer and technician for a variety of companies and projects, most notably the Columbia Space Shuttle and the Chrysler M1 Tank. He was an expert marksman earning many distinguished awards.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Thelma Lindenbaum of Pennsylvania; sister-in-law and her husband, Shirley and Warren Jenkins of Lakewood, New Jersey; nieces and their spouses, Jean and Jeffery Rohal of Jeanette, Pennsylvania and Joanne Brown and Kenneth Wiren of Paramus, New Jersey; nephews, Kevin and Rachel Brown Mebane, North Carolina and Steven Brown of River Edge, New Jersey; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was also loved by several dear friends and fellow parishioners at the Church of the Ascension.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at The Church of the Ascension in Cartersville with Rev. Linda Pineo officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with full military honors provided by American Legion Carl Boyd Post #42.
The family will receive friends from 10 � 11 a.m. Wednesday in the fellowship hall of The Church of the Ascension. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions in Lindy�s memory to his favorite charity, The Salvation Army; to The Church of the Ascension, 205 W. Cherokee Ave., Cartersville, GA 30120; or by simply doing something nice for someone you love.
