Edward Howard, Sr.

Mr. Edward McVey Howard, Sr., age 84, of 36 Conway Place, NW, Rome passed away on Thursday, December 02, 2004 at a local healthcare facility.Mr. Howard was born in Irvine, Kentucky on March 5, 1920, the son of the late McVey Howard and Linna Azzoli Howard. He had been member of the Rome First Church of the Nazarene since 1968 and was a Gideon for twenty five years, placing Bibles in motels, businesses and other places. Mr. Howard was a Sunday School Teacher and minister of music for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, retiring after twenty two years of service as a Master Sergeant. Mr. Howard also retired from the I.R.S. Collections Department after eighteen years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Edna Isaacs Howard on September 10, 1999; one son, Edward McVey Howard, Jr. on October 28, 1990, and one brother, Logan Howard.Survivors include one daughter and son –in-law, Lora and Peter Kempson of Rome; three grandchildren, Penny Kay (Paul) Denson of Clarksville, TN, Melissa Ann (John) Satterly of Boling Green, KY and Brandon Loftin Kempson of Rome, GA; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Howard of Berea, KY and Oven Howard of Richmond, KY; three sisters, Virginia Terrill of Zephyr Hills, FL, Judy Sparks of Richmond, KY and Martha Parcell of Dayton, OH.Funeral services for Mr. Howard will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, December 4th at the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Don Taylor and Rev. Barry Gay officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Mr. J Parnick Jennings, Sr. in charge of graveside rites. Following which, the Warner- Robbins Air Force Base Honor Guard will render full military rites.Mr. Howard will lie-in-state at the Jennings Oaknoll Chapel from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm tonight (Friday).
