Mr. Edward Lamar Williams, age 67, of 812 Shannon Circle, Rome, GA, died Sunday morning, June 27, 2004, in a local hospital.A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mr. Williams was born on May 5, 1937, the son of the late Jess David Williams and Gertie Dugger Williams. He had been a life long resident of Rome and Floyd County and was a veteran of the United States Marine Reserve. He was a graduate of Model High School and received his Associate Degree in Electro/Mechanical Engineering from Chattahoochee Technical Institute. He was a member of the Enon Baptist Church where he had served as Boys R.A. Leader and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Williams was also a Charter member of the Shannon Ruritan Club and coached Pee Wee and Mite football at the Boys and Girls Club of Rome. Prior to retirement he was a self-employed plumber and electrician. Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Gaye O'Neal Williams, to whom he was married on July 13, 1957; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Trina Williams of Calhoun, GA; two grandchildren, Kersten Williams and Jacob Williams; a sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Paul Pulley of Cayce, SC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services for Mr. Williams will be held on Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Chaplain Thurman Moore, Rev. Mark Cosby and Rev. Ralph Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery.Mr. Williams will lie in-state at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this (Monday) evening from 6 until 9 p.m. At other hours they will be at the residence.Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Tuesday by 10:30 a.m. and include Leon O'Neal, Johnie Evans, William Burk, Paul Pulley, Carlton Lowe and Bob Finnell.
