Mrs. Edyth C. Holcomb Pursley, age 88, of Rome, GA, died Tuesday in a local assisted living facility.
Mrs. Pursley was born in Gordon County, GA on March 29, 1921 the daughter of the late Hardy Curtis and Nora Long Curtis. She had been a resident of Shannon since 1939. Mrs. Pursley had been employed with Southeastern Mills for 40 years and was a 1945 graduate of Carroll Lynn School of Business. Also, was a member of the Business & Professional Women�s Club and Beta Sigma Phi. She also attended the Calhoun and Gordon Schools in her earlier years. In addition to her parents Mrs. Pursley was preceded in death by her first husband, Carroll Judson �Jud� Holcomb in 1988; brothers, Wayne Curtis and Vernon Curtis; sisters, Mamie Curtis Worley and Vinnie Curtis; and a step-mother, Ida Curtis.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Pursley; a brother, James Max Curtis and (Betty) of Calhoun; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 17, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home with Dr. Joel Snider officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Friday from 12 noon until the funeral hour in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Compassionate Paws Inc., 2501 Callier Springs Road, Rome, GA 30161 or Heyman Hospice in c/o Floyd Medical Center, P.O. Box 163, Rome, GA 30162.
