Mr. Elbert William Montgomery, age 84, of 73 Collier Road, Rome, GA, died Thursday, September 14, 2006, in a hospital.Mr. Montgomery was born in Concord, GA on November 16, 1921, the son of the late William Sanders and Willie Eva Banks Montgomery. He was a member of North Rome United Methodist Church and of Mount Springs Methodist Church. Mr. Montgomery was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army Air Corp. He worked at Big Star as a store manger from 1943-1949 and opened his own store for about three years. Mr. Montgomery retired from Big Apple Groceries in 1981. He was a great dad and a devoted husband and wonderful friend. He enjoyed camping and working with wood. In addition to his parents Mr. Montgomery is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Beard Montgomery; three sisters, Helen Stevenson, LaCresia Hyman, and Evelyn Stevens; and his companion of 20 years, Lura Beard.Mr. Montgomery is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Margaret Ann Montgomery of Eatonton, GA and Rodney and Patsy Montgomery of Kingston, GA; two grandchildren, Scott Montgomery and his wife, Amie, Tish Montgomery; and three great-grandchildren, Chase Montgomery, Sydney Montgomery, and Trent Montgomery all of Eatonton, GA. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 17, 2006, at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Norv Havens officiating.
