Mrs. Eleanor Wright Cannon, age 94, of 101 Euclid Avenue, Rome, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 23, 2008, following a long blessed life.
Mrs. Cannon was born in Rome, Georgia on June 25, 1913, daughter of the late Orin Griffin Wright and the late Ethel Davis Wright. She was a member of Hill Crest Baptist Church. Before retirement, she worked as a foster grandparent at Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Lavoy Cannon, son, Homer Lavoy Cannon, Jr., daughter, Barbara June Cannon, brothers Henry Wright, Orin Wright and Joseph Wright, and sisters Ozorah Tallent and Addie Lou Davis.
Survivors include her sister, Rebekah Skelton, daughter, Tereca Casey, son Wayne Cannon and his wife Frances, daughter Chloe Dollar and her husband Charles, daughter Myra Joyce Nieto and her husband Louis, and son Barry Cannon and his wife Marsha, as well as 51 grandchildren from three generations.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Pastor Stanley Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot at Forest Hill Cemetery in Gaylesville, Alabama for the family.
Mrs. Cannon will lie in state at Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Mrs. Cannon has asked that memorial contributions be made to Hill Crest Baptist Church at 2202 North Broad Street, Rome, GA 30161 in her honor in lieu of flowers.
