Elizabeth Matthews

Mrs. Elizabeth C. �Liz� Matthews, age 74, of 18 Timberlane Terrace, Rome, GA, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009, at her residence.



Liz was born in Bartow County, GA, on April 9, 1934. She retired from the Floyd County Lunch Room at Alto Park Elementary.



Survivors include her husband of fifty-three years, Edwin Matthews, a daughter and son-in-law, Edith Kelley and Bryan Kelley of Rome; a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Kathy Matthews of Gaffney, SC; three grandchildren, Steven, Laura, and Sarah Kelley all of Rome; and a brother, Ellis Cantrell of Cartersville, GA.



Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. in the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Oaknoll Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Barbara Davidson officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.



The family will receive friends in the Oaknoll Chapel Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and at other hours may be contacted at the residence of Edith Kelley, 36 Hadrian Ridge Drive, in Highland Subdivision.



The family respectfully ask in lieu of flowers the memorial contributions be made to Heyman Hospice, C/0 Floyd Medical Center, P.O. Box 163, Rome, GA 30162.



The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to assemble at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday: Bryan Kelley, Steven Kelley, Trey Tolbert, Tommy Phillips, Steve Karakos, and Mack Matthews. The honorary pallbearers will be Zack Karakos, Floyd Robinson, Rev. Charles Hill, Hobart Money, Don Heath, and Charles Heath.
