Mrs. Elvie Ruth Hamilton, age 81, of 4758 Rockmart Road, Silver Creek, GA died Wednesday, December 19, 2007.
Mrs. Hamilton was born in Dekalb County, AL on June 29, 1296, the daughter of the late Lee Hester and Cynthia Nora Tolbert Hester. She was a member of Wilkerson Road Baptist Church and a Sunday School Teacher. Mrs. Hamilton was active in the choir. She managed Bob's Family Shoe Store for over 10 years and retired in the mid 1980's. Mrs. Hamilton loved to sing and cook and was the caregiver to her husband. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, to whom she was married January 17, 1945, Herbert Hamilton on October 16, 2001. Three brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law; Barbara and Rev. Oscar Lewis of Rome, Vera Cochran of Silver Creek, and Sue and Gene Freeman of Buchanan, GA; one brother, Roland Hester of Gadsden, AL. Four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hamilton will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday in the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Stephens and Rev. David Fincher officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers and are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 pm.
