Erma Moseley

Erma Rue Moseley of Rome, Georgia died on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Chulio Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center.



Mrs. Moseley was born in Ashland, Alabama on April 27, 1918, the third child of the late Walter B. and Earlie Mel-rosa James Holdridge. Erma earned a General Business

Degree from Massey Draughon Business School in Montgomery and worked in civil service for the Air Force. She served at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL as the Judge Advocate�s private secretary from 1957-1960 and at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, GA as procurement director for F-14 and F-15 radio and radar component parts from 1960-1987, at which time she retired. Mrs. Moseley was married 56 years to J.H. �Red� Moseley, who died 1995, and they were members of several First Baptist Churches in Alabama (Evergreen, Wetumpka, Montgomery) Taylor Road Baptist in Montgomery and Ft. Valley GA. She completed 3 years of Bible study through Howard College (Samford University) Extension Adult Studies program and taught the Senior Adult Women�s Sunday School class for many years. After suffering a stroke in 2001, she moved to Rome, bringing her beloved cat Max, a grand piano, and her computer. She had resided at Horizon Bay Retirement Community (formerly Merrill Gardens) for eight years and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rome, GA. She served as president of the residents for two terms, held memorial tributes for residents who died, led and played the piano for a Saturday sing-a-long for 5 years, and wrote inspirational and humorous articles for their programs. Mrs. Moseley secured a sound system for the lobby where their meetings and programs were held. Erma loved to sew and she designed and made all her and her four daughters�

wardrobes through their college graduations and weddings. Over the span of her daughters� education, she paid for many years of voice, swimming and tennis lessons, and over four decades of piano lessons. Her legacy to her girls and their families is a love for God and their church, music, art, education, entertaining, travel, Auburn University, careers that you love and that express your creativity, learning to cook many new recipes, and clever family activities. Christmas was always an adventure. She was a person of many talents and she utilized them all. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings Evie Lee Walls of Alex City, AL, Genelle Moody and Ellis B. Holdridge of Douglasville, GA.



Suvivors include her four daughters and their families, Glenda and Willis Potts of Rome and their three sons and families, Stephen and Katrina Blackwell of Clanton, AL, Mel and Gwen Blackwell with Clara, Emalyn, Nick and Elisabeth of Birmingham, AL, Brendon and Kendra Potts with Austin and Kaleigh of Lexington, Ky: Idonia and Roland Porterfield of Montgomery and their daughter, son and families, Victoria and Richard Ramsey with Virginia and Sarah of Marietta, John and Cassie Porterfield with John, Hallie and Natalie of Birmingham; Ginger Parr and her daughter and husband, Jennifer and Matt Iudice of Marietta, GA; Jere and Ben Bowden with daughters, Jennings and Merrell of St. Simons Island, GA.



Graveside and interment services will be held Sunday, September 6, 2009 following the visitation in Pine View Memorial Cemetery in Wetumpka with Rev. Gil Barrow and Rev. Richard Ramsey officiating.



The family will receive friends on Sunday at the Ellison Funeral Home in Wetumpka, AL from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M.



Pallbearers include the following gentlemen: Mel Blackwell, Stephen Blackwell, Ben Bowden, Matt Iudice, John Porterfield, Roland Porterfield, Brendon Potts and Willis Potts.
