Ernest Clyde Charles, 97, of Cartersville Georgia, passed away on January 28, 2022 at Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center.
Born on July 17, 1924, he was the son of the Lillius Charles and the late Beulah Stone White.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mary Charles; children, Anne Rowley (Bruce), Ernest Clyde Charles Jr (Patti), and Dana Charles Cochran (Eddie); grandchildren, Kevin Rowley, Ryan Charles, Sean Charles and Thomas Cochran; as well as several great-grandchildren.
Clyde was an avid golf player and loved to bowl. He loved gardening and was heavily involved in the community. He served on the city council and served as The Mayor of Cartersville for two terms. He proudly served in the Army for 2 years 7 months and 28 days. He was a member and deacon of Peeples Valley Baptist Church and was the former business owner of Charles Super Market and C&C Bowling Lanes.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 in the Chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with Darrell Bailey and Jamey Hunt officiating. A graveside service will be held at Floyd Creek Baptist Church Cemetery following the funeral. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm on Wednesday prior to the service.
