Ernest Larry Collins, 92, passed away February 4, 2021. Son of the late Benjamin J. Collins and Texie Mae Youngblood Collins, he was born on May 27, 1928, and grew up in the Atco Village of Cartersville, GA. He was a retired warehouseman for Pendley Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc.
Ernest, known affectionately as Papa by his grandchildren, had a caring heart for others and loved his family dearly. He displayed a grand sense of humor with stories from his childhood and enjoyed riding shotgun with his close friend, Lamar Pendley. He loved the Lord and prayed for his family daily.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters: Annie Mae Smith Cronan, Mary Ward, William (Blondie) Collins, Lawrence Collins, Florence Collins, Andrew Collins, Katie Williams, and Robert Collins.
He is survived by sons, Wayne (Sherry) Collins, Bobby Collins, and Gary Collins; grandchildren: Troy Collins, Roxanne Wade, Drew Collins, Daniel Collins, Tyler Collins and Brandon Collins; great-grandchildren: John Collins, Justin Collins, Karley Powell, Emily Decker, Dominic Collins, Kaleb Collins, Kobe Collins, Kali Collins, and Tanner Collins; great-great-grandchildren: Makayla Powell, Kinsley Powell, and Melany Powell; sister Sadie (Charles) Darnell and his close friend, Lamar Pendley. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2021, at 2:00 at Friendship Baptist Church, Cartersville, GA. Family and friends are asked to wear face masks and observe social distancing.
