Mrs. Esther Willa Leigh Girtman Latham, age 80, formerly of Brunkswick, Georgia, died October 23, 2004 at the home of a daughter in Rome, Georgia.Mrs. Latham was born in Hazlehurst, Georgia on January 5, 1924. She was the daughter of Eddie Bell and Lillie Mae Girtman. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Latham was a loyal employee of the King and Prince Company. Mrs. Latham was a 1942 graduate of Glynn Academy in Brunswick, Georgia. A faithful member of the First Baptist Church Brunswick, Mrs. Latham was a member of the Grace and Glory Sunday School Class and served as a children's Sunday School teacher, leader of Girls Auxiliary, and was a member of the church choir.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward William Latham to whom she was married September 14, 1942; nine brothers and sisters, Eddie B. Girtman, Jr., Tillman P. Girtman, Clyde L. Girtman, Mary Alice Carden, Warren L. Girtman, Charles L. Girtman, Paul T. Girtman, Rebecca Mathis, and O. Bruce Girtman.Survivors include her four daughters Mrs. Ronald D. (Patricia) Mattox of Seneca, South Carolina, Mrs. Lewis R. (Betsy) Baker of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Mrs. Richard E. (Debbie) Cowan, and Mrs. Kenneth E. (Jennifer) Davenport of Rome; one brother, Robert E. Girtman of Brunswick, Georgia; and nine grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services for Mrs. Latham will be held at 10am Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at the Twitty Memorial Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Brunswick with the Rev. Jim Crandall officiating. Interment will follow at Palmetto Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 9 am October 26, 2004 at Twitty Memorial Chapel.The Thad Dankel Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church, Brunswick, will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include members of the Grace and Glory Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church, Brunswick, as well as former employees of the King and Prince Company.The Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home, Rome,GA and Edo Miller Funeral Home, of Brunswick, GA has charge of the arrangements.
