Mr. Eugene T. "Cowboy" Autry, age 71, of 8096 New Calhoun Highway, Adairsville, GA, died Sunday afternoon, September 26, 2004, in a local hospital.A native of Floyd County, Mr. Autry was born on July 7, 1933, the son of the late Clyde Lee and Fannie Mae Scott Autry. He had been a life long resident of Floyd County and was a member of the Enon Baptist Church. Mr. Autry was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion. Prior to retirement in 1990, he was associated with General Electric of Rome for 25 years. Mr. Autry enjoyed buying and selling automobiles, loved traveling and never met a stranger. He was a loving family man who was always giving of himself to others. Mr. Autry was preceded in death by his first wife, Willene Bailey Autry, in 1988. Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Wanda Gail Braden, a brother, Jack Autry, and a sister, Betty Cleveland.Mr. Autry is survived by his wife, Annie Thompson Morrison Autry, to whom he was married on September 7, 1988; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Farron Autry, and Gerald Blake and Rhonda Autry, all of Adairsville; one step-daughter, Carol Tillery of Lindale, GA; one step-son, Darrell Morrison and his wife, Melinda, of Rome, GA; four brothers, C.L. Autry, Troy Autry, Wyman Autry and William "Billy" Autry. Twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.Funeral services for Mr. Autry will be held at 2:00 P.M. this (Tuesday) afternoon in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Webster and Rev. Bobby Stephens officiating. Interment will follow in Lake View Cemetery with the Honor Guard from the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion in charge of military graveside rites.The family received friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home.
