Retired Captain of the Rome City Fire Department, Eugene Edward (Boo-Boo) LaRue, age 72, of Rome, GA, died Friday, February 19, 2010 in a Rome healthcare facility.
Mr. LaRue was born in Floyd County, GA, on December 14, 1937, the son of the late Henry Leroy LaRue and Eva Nell Howard LaRue. He had spent his entire life in Rome and Floyd County and was a 1956 graduate of Pepperell High School. Mr. LaRue attended the Beech Creek United Methodist Church. Mr. LaRue retired after 38 years of service with the City of Rome Fire Department. In addition to his parents, Mr. LaRue was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Ann Diaz in 2009.
Survivors include his wife Mary Jo Freeman LaRue of Rome, GA; daughter, Tammy LaRue of Rome, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Christie LaRue of Ft. Payne, AL and Tony and Kristy LaRue of Rome, GA; grandchildren, Gregory LaRue, Autumn LaRue, Holland LaRue, Kelsie Patterson, Briar Patterson, Hannah LaRue, Rebecca LaRue and Madison LaRue and a sister, Betty Brooks Autry of Rome, GA.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at 1:00 P.M. at Beech Creek United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Ozment and Bishop David Braziel officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Rev. Randy Robertson in charge of the graveside rites.
The family will receive friends Monday, February 22, 2010 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home.
The Honor Guard of the Rome Fire Department will serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet at Beech Creek United Methodist Church by 12:30 P.M. on Tuesday: The honorary pallbearers include all active and retired firemen of the Rome Fire Department.
