Mrs. Evelyn Lorene Howell Walters, age 71, of 16 Grandview Drive, Rome, GA, died Saturday evening, January 13, 2007, at her residence.
Mrs. Walters was born in Floyd County on March 15, 1935, the daughter of the late Ed Columbus Howell and Mary Lena Slaton Howell. She was of the Baptist faith and worked for the Floyd County Police Department as a Crossing Guard for Garden Lakes School. Mrs. Walters was an artist and loved to read. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and a wonderful friend. In addition to her parents Mrs. Walters is preceded in death by four sisters, Lillian McCord, Beatrice Wade, Virginia Everett, and Margaret Watkins, and a brother, John Howell.
Mrs. Walters is survived by her husband, Vernon Ray Walters to whom she was married on March 7th , 1953; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Robert Abrams of Marietta, GA; two sons, John and his wife, Tammy Walters of Rome, GA; and Jim Walters of Rome, GA; five grandchildren, Bob Abrams and his wife, Heather of Canton, GA, Richard Abrams and his wife, Rebekah of Dallas, GA, Joe Abrams of Marietta, GA, Brittany Walters of Rome, GA, and Steven Walters of Rome, GA; four great-grandchildren, Peyton and Grant Abrams both of Dallas, GA, Lexi and Preston Abrams both of Canton, GA; and a brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Imogene Howell of Rome, GA.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 16, 2007, at 11:00 A.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Jackie Culberson officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Walters will remain in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. and at other hours can be contacted at a son's house, 10 Boulder Drive in Garden Lakes.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home Tuesday by 10:30 A.M.: Joe Abrams, Richard Abrams, Bob Abrams, Steven Walters, Jerry Martin, Allen Gossett, and Mark Brewer.
