F.G. Lankford

F.G. �Red� Lankford, 98, of Cartersville died Friday, September 25, 2009 at the Maple Ridge Health Care Center in Cartersville. Born in Dalton on June 17, 1911, he was the son of the late Tooms Lankford and the late Ida Middleton Lankford. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Abercrombie Lankford; his daughter, Mona Lankford Smith; his son-in-law, Jack M. Smith; and several brothers and sisters.



Mr. Lankford was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II. Then he began an extensive career in law enforcement beginning with the Dalton Police Department. He also worked with the Whitfield County Sheriff�s Department. However, he spent most of his law enforcement career with the Georgia State Patrol with Post #3 in Cartersville where he retired as a sergeant.



After his retirement Mr. Lankford became a successful farmer. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Laurel Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Peace Officers Association of Georgia and the Cartersville Masonic Lodge #63.



Survivors include his wife, Eulane Lankford of Cartersville; his sister, Edith McClean of Falls Church, Virginia; his granddaughter, Sarah Barnaby of Central Florida; his grandson, Fred Smith of Marietta; his son-in-law, George Barnaby of Central Florida; his step-daughter, Kay Fields of Cartersville; and several nieces and nephews.



Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Dr. Don Hattaway officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.



The deacons of Tabernacle Baptist Church and members of Cartersville Masonic Lodge #63 will serve as honorary pallbearers. These gentlemen are requested to meet at the church by 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.



The family will accept flowers, or those who wish may send memorial contributions to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 112 E. Church St., Cartersville, GA 30120.



The family will receive friends from 6 - 9 p.m. on Monday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Road, Cartersville, GA 30120.
