Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Davis Barton, age 86 of 5 Howell Street, Rome, GA, died Monday, September 6, 2004 in a Rome Medical Center following a brief illness.Mrs. Barton was born in Fulton County, Georgia, August 4, 1918, daughter of the late George Benjamin and Willie Murphy Davis, but had spent the greater part of her life in Rome and Floyd County. For many years a homemaker, she returned to school and obtained a degree for Licensed Practical Nurse and practiced as a private nurse, and with Floyd Medical Center and McCall's Hospital. In later years she and her husband were active in crafts shows in the area with their pine needle and white oak baskets, and needlework. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church for over 60 years, and a member of United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, George Benjamin Davis, Jr., and Charles ThomasDavis.Survivors include her husband, Winton Barton to whom she was married, June 25, 1939, one daughter and son in law, Suzanne and David Jackson, a son, George W, Barton,Jr., all of Sharpsburg, GA, a sister Virginia Johnson of Ellijay, GA, grandchildren Melinda Messinger Karr of Peachtree City, GA, Specialist 4th Class Daniel Jackson,Jr., U.S. Army stationed at Ft Bragg, NC, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Davis Barton will be held Wednesday at2:30 PM in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home, with Dr. Gil Watson and Dr. Ken Freshour officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery with Rev. Leland Bagwell conducting the graveside services.Mrs. Barton will remain at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Wednesday from 1PM until time for services.Pallbearers serving include: John and Rev.
