Frances Couch

August 10, 1917 — October 22, 2010

Mrs. Frances Rooks Couch age 93, of Rome, GA, died Friday, October 22, 2010, in a local nursing home.



Mrs. Couch was born on August 10, 1917, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Rooks. She spent most of her early life in Washington, GA. Mrs. Couch was Co-Valedictorian of the class of 1934 and went to Berry College for the fall 1935 semester. She met Jack Couch at Berry College and married on August 29, 1937, in a double wedding ceremony with Bill and Nina Bostic at the College Chapel. Miss Martha Berry gave the bride away.



She continued College in 1958 at Shorter College and graduated in 1960 Cum Laude. Mrs. Couch taught in Rome City Schools for a couple of years full time and about ten years as a substitute teacher. She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1945. Mrs. Couch worked in the nursery and primary department. Mrs. Couch was a member of the Edith Harbin Class and its president for a number of years. She traveled with First Baptist Church groups to Europe and on world tours. Mrs. Couch was a member of Daughters of Berry, the Arthritis Club, and very active in Berry Alumni Association.



In addition to her parents, Mrs. Couch was preceded in death by her husband, E.O. �Jack� Couch and a daughter, Marysue Couch Carroll.



Survivors include two sons, Neal Couch and Tom Couch both of Rome; two granddaughters, Amanda Couch of Atlanta, GA and Leanne Couch of Rome; and a brother, Herman Rooks of Panama City, FL.



A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, October 25, 2010, at 3:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Dr. Floyd Roebuck and Dr. Joel Snider officiating. A private interment will be held.



The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour in the Heritage Chapel.
