Mrs. Frances Peterson Scoggins, age 92, of 6959 Martha Berry Highway, died Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at a local medical center.
Mrs. Scoggins was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on April 18, 1915, the daughter of the late Nettie Winkle Peterson and Grover Addison Peterson. She had lived most of her life in Floyd County and was a member of Armuchee Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for a number of years. Mrs. Scoggins retired from Celeanse Fiber Company where she was a supervisor and a lab technician. She enjoyed gardening. She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband, James Reese Scoggins on November 12, 1990, two brothers, Willis Donovan Peterson and Grover Leland Peterson and by a sister, Millie Peterson Mahan.
Survivors include an aunt, Mrs. Jewell Peterson Millican of Walker County; sister-in-law, Bess Scoggins of Rome; brother-in-law, Freddie Scoggins of Summerville; six cousins and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Scoggins will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday at the Armuchee Baptist Church with Rev. Glen Clonts officiating. Interment will follow at East View Cemetery. Mrs. Scoggins will lie-in-state at the church from 12:30 until the service hour.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church by 1:30 pm Thursday and include, William Burk, Leon Hawkins, Max Worley, Steve Scoggins and Bobby and Tommy Cleckler.
