Francis Dougherty

CMSgt. Francis "Frank" Dougherty (USAF – Retired), 73, of 21 Rocky Circle NE, White, GA, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at his residence. Born on April 14, 1934 in Jamaica, New York, he was the son of the late John Dougherty and the late Mary Leach Dougherty.

During his 28 year military career, Frank was awarded numerous prestigious awards and decorations including the Bronze Star and two Meritorious Service Medals. His assignments took him overseas to Germany as part of the WWII Occupation Forces, England, North Africa, and Viet Nam.

Frank's assignments in the Life Support Carrier Field included Superintendent of the 52nd TFW, Spangclahlem Air Base, Germany; 33rd TFW Eglin AFB, Florida; USAFE Command Superintendent, Ramstein Air Base, Germany; Command IG HQ USAFE, Kapaun Air Station, Germany; and Life Support Project Manager, USAF TAWC, Eglin AFB, Florida.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 50 years, Helene Dougherty of White, Georgia; his daughter, Helene Horgan and her husband, Patrick, of Cartersville, Georgia; his sons, Joseph Dougherty and his wife, Sharmaine, of Destin, Florida and Mark Dougherty and his wife, Shannon, of Merritt Island, Florida; his brother, John "Jack" Dougherty of Lakewood, New Jersey; his sister, Marion San Antonio of Lakewood, New Jersey; six grandchildren, Ryan Horgan, Erin Horgan, Alexandria Dougherty, Paige Dougherty, Luke Dougherty, and Campbell Dougherty.

A funeral mass will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2008 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Cartersville with Father Daniel Stack officiating. Burial will follow in Georgia National Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. on Thursday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Winship Cancer Institute, Department of Radiation Oncology, 1365 Clifton Rd. NE, Atlanta, GA 30322.
