Mr. Furman Boyd McCoy age 87, of Rome, GA, died Friday, August 28, 2009, in a local hospital.



Mr. McCoy was born in Macon County, NC on October 11, 1921, the son of the late James David McCoy and Edith Henry McCoy. He served in the United States Army Infantry during World War II with the 79th Infantry Division and 314 Infantry Regiment. Mr. McCoy received the Silver Star medal, Bronze medal, and the Purple Heart awarded for action at the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. McCoy retired from a ply wood mill in Washington State. He attended Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. In addition to his parents Mr. McCoy was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Elizabeth McCoy and two brothers.



Survivors include three brothers, Emory McCoy of Glenville, NC, James McCoy and his wife, Carolyn of Sylva, NC, and David Curtis McCoy of OH and a sister, Betty June McCoy of Wilmington, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.



A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, August 31, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Dudley officiating. Graveside and interment services will be held Monday at 4:00 P.M. in Florence City Cemetery in Florence, AL with the Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 11 Florence Lauderdale conducting military graveside rites.



The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral hour in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire Jennings & Miller Funeral Home.
