Mr. G. W. McFry, age 88, of Rome, Georgia went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Mr. McFry was born in Piedmont, AL on March 8, 1922 to the late Harry and Jessie McFry. During his working career, Mr. McFry was employed by General Motors where he retired in 1982 after 30 years of service. Mr. McFry served his country honorably overseas during World War II. He was previously a member of Whittaker Freewill Baptist Church of Ypsilanti, Michigan and was currently a member of Liberty View Baptist Church in Rome, GA. Mr. McFry always took great interest in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their lives. In addition to his parents Mr. McFry was preceded in death by his wife Relzie Mae Tolbert McFry to whom he married on February 17, 1940 in Piedmont, AL; a daughter, Norma Jean Raymond; sister, Opal Farmer; brother, Harry McFry and a great-grandson Jayson.
Survivors include a daughter, Yvonne Carauna and her husband Jim of Wayne, Michigan; sons, Gary Wayne McFry and his wife Sylvia of Piketon, Ohio and Ron McFry and his wife Kathie of Canton, Michigan; sister, Kathleen Amberson of Piedmont, Alabama; brother, Huey McFry and his wife Betty of Ypsilanti, Michigan; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, Jack Raymond also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home with Reverend Brother Ladell Jacobs officiating. Interment to follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the Heritage Chapel Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
