Gary Lee Jacques Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away on Monday, December 8th, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on November 29th, 1948, Gary lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind treasured memories for all who knew him.
Gary dedicated 21 and a half years to serving his country with honor and distinction in the United States Army. His commitment to his nation was paralleled only by his devotion to his family and friends. He was a proud member of Seney Baptist Church in Aragon, GA. A man of diverse talents and passions, Gary enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. One of his favorite pastimes was making trips to Ellijay, specifically to savor the renowned apple pies there.
He leaves behind a devoted family who will cherish his memory forever. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Shirley Jacques; daughters Dena Turner (Jeff) and Lisa Ray (Chris); sons Gary Jacques Jr. (Lisa), Michael Jacques, Steven Jacques, Dale Kown, and Charles Kown (Angela). He was also a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is remembered fondly by his surviving siblings Allen Jacques, Jerry Jacques, Diane Gross, and Johnny Jacques, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Gearl Lee Jacques and Altha B Jacques; his sister, Linda Teer; and brothers, David Jacques and Darrell Jacques.
The funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Cabe and Pastor Donald Collum officiating. Burial will follow at Georgia National Cemetery. We will be going in procession to the cemetery at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive visitors at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Sutton, Jerry Deams, Billy Deams, Tommy Haney, and Gearl Robinson. Honorary pallbearer will be Logan Kown.
