Rev. Gilbert, Sr.

Rev. Quincy J. Gilbert, Sr., 89, of Silver Creek, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Laurens County, Georgia on Nov. 18, 1920 and was the son of the late James Edward Gilbert and Rachel Anna Allen Gilbert. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 60 years, Ola Mae Mullis Gilbert who died in 2002; his siblings, Bertha McDermont, Jeanette McGee, Edward James (E.G.) Gilbert, Reaves Gilbert, Cecil J. Gilbert and Prentice D. Gilbert.



Quincy enlisted in the Army September 11, 1940 serving during WWII and the Korean Conflict for twelve years as a First Sargeant. He received the Bronze Star Medal in 1950 for volunteering to lead a group of men across enemy fire to establish communication lines. He also received an American Service Medal, American Defense Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal w/4 Bronze service stars, United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation.



Following his tour in the Army he was employed by American Freight System, Inc. where he retired with 20 years of service. During this time he felt a call to the ministry and began Trinity House of Prayer in Cartersville. Quincy and Ola then moved their residence and the Church to Adairsville. After the death of his wife he retired from the ministry and moved to Silver Creek but never stopped ministering to those in need.



Rev. Gilbert was married to Ola Mae Mullis on February 25, 1942. Their marriage was blessed with three children: a son, Quincy Gilbert, Jr. of Joplin, Missouri; and two daughters, Rachel Bradford of Silver Creek, and Wanda Griswell of Jonesboro. Rev. Gilbert was also survived by his brother, James E. Gilbert, Jr. of Woodstock; ten grandchildren, James Griswell, Arin Gilbert, Arik Gilbert, Steve Bradford, Bryan Bradford, Donna Cook Blair, Tammy Bradford Collum, Teresa Cook Reynolds, Renae Bradford Johnsen, and Olivia Bradford; fourteen great-grandchildren, Nick, Luke and Katie Reynolds, Joshua and Lauren Lee, Thomas Cooper, JoAnna Munson, Matthew and Cody Bradford, Alicia Bradford Esposito, Josh and Ashley Bradford, Sylvia Phillips and Quentin Johnsen.



Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, March 7, 2010 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. James E. Gilbert, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge.



Serving as pallbearers will be Steve and Bryan Bradford, James Griswell, Arin Gilbert, Dewayne Lindsay and Charles Bradford. These gentlemen are asked to meet at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home on Sunday at 12:15 p.m.



The family will receive friends from 6 � 9 p.m., Saturday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Road, Cartersville.
