Grady Lee Holmes, cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend passed away on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2026, at the age of 77, surrounded by his loving family in Cartersville, GA.
Grady was born on Sunday, March 6th, 1949, to Dave and Hazel Holmes. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold Holmes.
He spent a commendable 34 years as an Operator with Georgia Power, after serving as a bookkeeper for Credit Union at EZ Mills, then starting his career as a fireman and meter reader with the city. He was admired by colleagues for his professionalism and unwavering work ethic.
Outside of his professional life, Grady was a pillar of his community and his church. He was a long-standing member and Deacon at Oak Grove Baptist Church and more recently, a devoted member of Cartersville First Baptist Church. He was also a proud Master Mason at Lodge 738.
Grady leaves a legacy of love and dedication, survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Carole Holmes; sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen & Flossie Holmes and Brian & Katherine Holmes. His spirit lives on in the hearts of his grandchildren, Mason Holmes, Landon Holmes, Haleigh Waits, Hannah Annunziata, Hampton Holmes, Caden Holmes, and Kaylee Gilliam, as well as his nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his dear sister, Ann Ray, along with many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Family, friends, and members of the community are invited to pay their respects during a visitation at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home in Cartersville, GA, on Saturday, June 27th, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 pm at the same location to celebrate the life and legacy of a truly remarkable man. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mason, Landon, Caden, and Hampton Holmes, Noah Waits, Gio Annunziata, and Codell Gilliam.
